Just shy of her 101st birthday, Kathleen Stachurski, born in Bolton, England on April 28, 1924, was sent to her eternal home on April 13, 2025. One of seven children, Kathleen, was the daughter of Mary Ellen and James Unsworth. Her death was preceded by her siblings: Mary, Ann, John, Fred, Florence, and Vincent.
Kathleen was married to her loving husband, Witold, for over 69 years. She is survived by her son, Anthony (Audrey) Stachurski of Murrieta, CA; her grandson, Nicholas (Debbie) Stachurski of Troy, MI; granddaughter, Catherine (Tony) Snider of Scottsdale AZ; and four great grandchildren: Olivia, Sophia, Savannah, and Hudson. She will also be remembered by her many nieces and nephews in England, as well as her adopted Canadian families, the Szejbuts and Morrises.
In 1942, while living in England, Kathleen met and married Witold Stachurski, a Polish Armory Seargent who served in the Royal Air Force during WWII. After the war they moved to Windsor, Ontario, where they lived for five years. They eventually moved to Grosse Pointe Park where Kathleen worked as an apartment manager, and later at Hudson’s Department Store as a hostess. Since 1976, the place they would call home was Auburn Hills.
Kathleen will be remembered for her laugh, infectious smile, positive spirit, incredible life stories, and her beautiful English accent. Her greatest joy in life was spending time with her family and friends, as well as sharing affection (treats) with dogs, Lily and Stella, who will miss her dearly. She enjoyed visiting the Windsor Casino, playing pinochle, and attending “Tuesday Night Bingo.” Kathleen also enjoyed her time as an active member of the Auburn Hills Community Center.
Kathleen was a long-time member of Sacred Heart Church in Auburn Hills. In May 2024, the mayor awarded Kathleen a special proclamation on behalf of the Auburn Hills City Council in recognition of her 100th birthday, and a life well lived.
Visitation will be held on Monday, June 9, between 2:00 pm and 8:00 pm at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Road, Auburn Hills, MI. An 11:00 am service will be held at Sacred Heart Church, 3360 S. Adams Rd., Auburn Hills on Tuesday, June 10, with burial to follow at Aaron Webster Cemetery.
