Percy Vernon Solwold, 95, of Rochester Hills passed away peacefully on Tuesday afternoon October 26, 2021. He was born December 2, 1926 to Peter and Minnie (Jacobson) Solwold in Iron Mountain, Michigan. The family moved to the Pontiac area when he was a boy.
Vernon proudly served his country during World War II in the United States Navy.
On February 11, 1945 he married Mary Louise Garner, beginning a marriage which lasted 71 years until her death in 2016. Together they raised a family and spent their lives in the little yellow brick house on Grant Street.
Vernon had several different jobs during his working years and retired after spending 20 years at Price Brothers Corporation as a heavy machinery mechanic. In his retirement he and Mary enjoyed spending time at Timberline Campground in Benzonia, their trips to the casino and visiting with family members--especially the grand and great-grandkids. An occasional trip to a Tiger baseball game was always a welcome treat.
Vernon was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, sister Sylvia, brothers Marvin, Lloyd and Ray, their spouses and his brothers and sisters-in-law.
He is survived by sister-in-law Donna Chambers, his sons Dale, Peter (Mary Jo), Ronald (Janine) and Timothy (Therese), five grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Vernon, Dad, Grandpa, Great-Grandpa, Uncle Perce will always be loved and remembered for his kindness, his independence, his total loyalty to the Detroit Lions and Tigers, his pride in his Norwegian heritage and especially his steadfast devotion to and unwavering love for not only his beloved Mary Louise, but for his entire family. He will be deeply missed.
Visitation will take place between 10:00 a.m. and 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 30, 2021 at Pixley Funeral Home, 3530 Auburn Rd, Auburn Hills, MI 48326. A funeral service will begin at 12:00 p.m.
