Born on June 10, 1921, in Nanticoke, Pennsylvania, Sophie was the beloved daughter of John and Victoria Kulesa. She spent her early years in Pennsylvania, where she met and married her first husband, Joseph Albert Hopper. Following his passing she and two children moved to the Detroit Metro Area. She met and married Harry Wasik, with whom she shared many wonderful years until his death in 1994.
Sophie had a deep love for life's simple joys. She enjoyed crocheting hats and gloves for grandchildren, baby caps for newborns, scrunchies that she sold and donated the money to special projects. Gardening and raising flowers was another passion. A woman of faith, she was a devoted and long-time parishioner of Sacred Heart Catholic Church.
She is lovingly remembered by her sons, Joseph (Janet) Hopper and Robert (Kathleen) Hopper; her grandchildren, Joseph (Lorrie) Hopper, Mark Hopper, Julie (Chris) Fuller, Douglas (Jennifer) Hopper, and Sean (Noelle) Hopper; and her great-grandchildren, Aubrey Hopper, Sara Hopper, Josh (Linnea) Benson, Rachael Benson, Ben Fuller, Grace Fuller, Evlin Fuller, Ethan Hopper, and Emma Hopper.
A Memorial Mass celebrating Sophie’s life will be held at St. Hugo of the Hills located at 2215 Opdyke Rd, Bloomfield Hills, MI 48304, on Friday, August 8, 2025, at 10:00 am, with a visiting period beginning at 9:30 am.

Following the inurnment, a luncheon at Filipas will be held, located at 45125 Mound Rd, Shelby Township, MI 48317.
Sophie’s legacy of love, faith, and family will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
In lieu of flowers, the Wasik family asks that donations be made to The Martha T. Berry Foundation.
