Tom was born in Pontiac, Michigan, to Edward and Carole Zelinski. From an early age, he developed a deep love for sports that would shape the course of his life. Growing up playing athletics, he went on to build a meaningful career in sports equipment management, remaining closely connected to the games he loved. Baseball, in particular, held a special place in Tom’s heart—both as a player and as a coach, where he inspired many and earned the enduring nickname “Coach Z.”
Beyond the field, Tom found joy in life’s simple pleasures. He cherished time spent golfing and fishing at Miramichi with his family, especially alongside his sons. A true movie buff, Tom had an incredible ability to recite lines from his favorite films, often bringing laughter and amazement to those around him. His love of music spanned generations, from 1960s classics and The Beatles to Led Zeppelin, Van Halen, and even Barry Manilow. Tom also loved to sing and was known for his strong, memorable voice.
Above all, Tom was a devoted family man. He is survived by his beloved wife, Kim Zelinski (née Watson); his sons, Ryan (Melanie) Zelinski and Chad (Megan) Zelinski; and his cherished grandchildren, Harlow, Gavin, and Laney. He is also survived by his father, Edward Zelinski; his sisters, Sharie and Patty; and his brother, Mike. Tom was preceded in death by his mother, Carole Zelinski.
A Celebration of Tom’s life will be held at Meadow Brook Hall, 350 Estate Drive, Rochester, Michigan 48309-4481 on April 18, 2026, at 2:00 PM.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Tom’s honor may be made to the Humane Society.
