Phyllis I. Mixer

Auburn - Phyllis I. Mixer, age 93, a resident of Schooner Estates and formerly of Mechanic Falls, passed away Tuesday morning at her home. She was born in Minot on May 11, 1921, a daughter of Lewis and Ola (Downs) Mixer. Phyllis was educated in local schools, graduated from Mechanic Falls High School and Auburn Maine School of Commerce and remained a lifelong resident of the Minot and Mechanic Falls community. She worked for a number of years as a Bookkeeper in the office at the Continental Mill in Lewiston. Upon leaving the mill, she worked in Administration in the Finance Department at Bates College for over 20 years until her retirement in 1986. Phyllis enjoyed gardening and was a longtime and active member of the Womens' Literary Union. She was also a supporter and volunteer for public television while working at Bates College. In her free time she enjoyed gardening and loved visiting with her nieces and nephews and their families. In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her friends and most recently loved participating in the activities and excursions at Schooner Estates. She was a loving, devoted and hardworking aunt, sister and friend who will be dearly missed. Phyllis leaves behind a sister Esther Rounds of VT, a sister-in-law Mary Mixer of Stonington, ME and many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by two brothers Edwin Mixer and Lewis Mixer Jr. and by 3 sisters- Ethel Kelley, Dora Fogg and Marion Milligan. She was also predeceased by her very special aunt, Esther Tracy with whom she lived for many years in Mechanic Falls. Online condolences may be expressed at www.thefortingroupauburn.com
Visitation Fortin Group / AUBURN Sun. 1-3 PM followed by a funeral service at 3 PM at the funeral home. Interment will take place in the family lot at Maple Grove Cemetery in Mechanic Falls in the Spring.
