May 10, 1927 – July 17, 2017
Clovis Grant Flake passed away in Federal Way, Washington, on July 17, 2017, with her sons at her side.
Born to the late Logan and Laura Grant on May 10, 1927, in Hearne, Texas, Clovis Marie Grant grew up in Atlanta, Georgia, and always remained close to her southern roots. She met and married the late Thomas Jefferson Flake, a U.S. Air Force Lt. Colonel, shortly after World War II while he was attending college in Georgia. They married on June 11, 1949 and lived a full and happy life, traveling all over the world as Tom’s Air Force career took them to Spain, Germany, and numerous places around the United States. Clovis loved being an Air Force wife. Upon Tom’s retirement from the military, they settled in Federal Way, Washington, where Tom worked for Boeing until his retirement. Clovis and Tom were married for 53 years until Tom’s passing in 2002.
During their travels, they were blessed with two sons, Robert, who resides in Richmond Beach, Washington and David, who lives in San Francisco, California.
Tom’s military career took them to Spain and Germany where they were able to explore these and the neighboring countries during many family vacations. They returned to Germany for several years when Tom was working for Boeing and lived in a beautiful house in a small Bavarian town outside Munich. Their holiday travels included trips to France, Switzerland, Italy, Africa, and Greece.
Clovis’ many hobbies included painting with water colors, traveling, and gardening. She was an avid golfer and kept active in the Twin Lakes Country Club where she was a founding member. In the early 1990s, Clovis competed in a pro-am golf tournament with her partner, JoAnne Carner, where they took first place.
Clovis and Tom collected antiques, many of which had been passed down in the family for generations. They spent many hours together restoring antiques to fill their home. Clovis also enjoyed cooking and entertaining for their many friends and family, especially in their house on Lake Loreene in Twin Lakes. Their 50th wedding anniversary was wonderful as they celebrated with their many friends and family at the Twin Lakes Country Club. Her family and friends remained very important to Clovis throughout her life.
Clovis’ siblings include: Ray Grant in Chandler, Arizona, Donald Grant (deceased), Margaret “Peggy” Addy in Woodstock, Georgia, and Patricia “Pat” Azzari in Jackson, New Jersey. Clovis is survived by her sons and her many nieces, nephews and friends.
