Luella passed away August 29, 2010 surrounded by her loving son, Philip, his wife Kim and Luella’s precious granddaughter Mary at her Kent home. She was born in 1921 to John and Susie Thompson on a farm near Dalton, Nebraska. The family moved to another farm near Bridgeport, Nebraska when she was six. She graduated from Bridgeport High School in 1939.
War was on everyone’s mind and the draft was in full force. Luella worked in Chicago from July 1941 till December 1942 before moving to Oregon. There she worked in the Portland Shipyards until July 1943 when she met Floyd George Collamore. They married and moved to Oakland, California for a year before Floyd was sent back to the South Pacific for two more years. Luella moved back to Bridgeport, Nebraska to be near her parents waiting Floyd’s return from the war. Floyd enlisted in the Navy May 1941. After basic training, he was sent to the South Pacific. He was discharged from the Navy in 1946 as a Chief Petty Officer.
They lived in Nebraska until 1966 when they moved to Seattle, WA. Five years later they moved to Kent, WA. Luella worked at the Boeing Aircraft Company for twenty years and retired in 1987. She loved gardening, annual geraniums fully displayed in her beautiful yard. She loved everyone and opened her home for anyone that needed a listening ear. Luella modeled love, forgiveness and strength.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, and three sisters: Helen Howell, Mattie Peachey, and Mary Schneider, three brothers: Frederick Otto Thompson, Harold Thompson, and Edward Thompson.
She is survived by two children, one daughter, Donna Bosch of Gig Harbor, WA, a son and daughter in law, Philip and Kim Collamore of Federal Way, WA. She has 3 grandchildren, Mary Torgerson, Christopher Tornow and Dierdra Tornow. She has seven great grandchildren. She is survived by several nieces and nephews and friends.
A service will be held at the Price Helton Funeral Home at 1:00pm on Thursday, September 2, 2010. Address is 702 Auburn Way N, Auburn, WA.
