Fiedler, Margaret Louise (Evans) passed gracefully and peacefully at home in Auburn on February 14, 2016. Margaret is survived by her husband of 66 years, Richard P. (Dick) Fiedler, her sister Raona Hilton, her four daughters Corrinne (Zenobia), Joan (Craig) Geyer, Diane (Wm. Dean) Farrell and Susanne Duren; her grandchildren Wm. Ian (Sara) Farrell and Caitlin (Kyle) Luccio; and three great grandchildren (Wm. Henry, Athena, and Elinor).
Margaret was born in Salt Lake City, Utah. After two years at the University of Utah, her father allowed her to move away from home, and she chose the University of Washington. She met Dick in the U District, and has called Washington home ever since.
Margaret’s legacy goes far beyond her large family: she was teacher to 3nd grade Nisei students at Thomas Elementary in Thomas, WA and later to many generations of students at her own Learn and Play School in Auburn, WA. She was host mother and guide to ‘all things US’ to exchange students from Turkey, Thailand, and Japan and to Mike Flaherty, a building missionary from Utah. Her calling as a teacher evidenced itself from simply teaching many children the art of knitting and crocheting to planning and leading large forums at the LDS church.
After Dick’s retirement, they traveled the globe visiting exchange students and friends near and far with special focus on the ‘always on time’ railroads in Japan, Australia and Switzerland. In addition to travel, Margaret loved her hobbies of bridge, quilting, reading, and tending to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She donated 25+ years of volunteer service to the Puget Sound Blood Center.
Special thanks to the staff at Wesley Homes Lea Hill and Providence Hospice of Seattle for their loving care.
