

Alex William Young, 85 of Lakeland, Florida, passed away on September 16th, 2014 due to heart failure. The family would like to thank the devoted staff at Lakeland Regional Medical Center and caregivers from Above and Beyond Compassionate Care, LLC for their superb care and support. He is preceded in death by his parents and his former wife and mother of his children, Pat Young. Mr. Young is survived by his wife of 20 years, Gloria; his children: Greg, Janney and her husband Larry, Cammey and her husband Wally and their daughter Teresa, Melissa Andrews and her husband Todd and their children Brandon and Brittany, Troy Harrell and his wife Gaily and their children Bryce and Aiden, Roy Harrell and his wife Lisa and their children Landon and Parker. He is also survived by his sister Vivian and her husband Bud. Alex, as he was affectionately known, was born to Alexander and Jennie Young on February 9th, 1929 in Tucson, Arizona. Alex served in the Army as a Wireman Foreman and fought in the Korean War and received a Korean Service W/3 Bronze Medal. After his service in the Army, he began his career as a Senior Lineman by joining Mountain States Telephone Company in Tucson, Arizona and retired from Southern Bell in Florida. Alex’s lifelong interests were Church, carpentry, and traveling. He was an avid worker, carpenter and devoted Christian, Father and Husband. Alex was a member of Southwest Church of Christ of Lakeland, FL where he served as an Elder. Alex, a.k.a. “Pops” will always be remembered for his generous nature, loving spirit and comical sense of humor and most of all his love for Jesus Christ. His visitation will be on Sunday, 09/21 from 2-4 pm and services on Monday, 09/22 at 10:00am at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 2198 K-Ville Avenue, Auburndale, FL 33823.
