Alice M. Mason, 106, passed away on December 8, 201 in Lakeland, Florida. She was born on October 25, 1913 in Westminster, Massachusetts as a premature infant who was not expected to live. Her parents, Harry Cleveland Chase and Mary Catherine Kneeland Chase, took her home to grow up with 2 sisters, and in 1915 another sister, Hazel, was born.
Alice left school at the age of 12 to help on the family farm since her father, a house painter, had become disabled. She was married at the age of 18, followed by four other marriages throughout her life. After Alice's fifth husband passed away she moved to Florida and worked as a housekeeper until she was 90. Alice never drove but rode the city bus. At one point she bought a car and "imported" a cousin to be her chauffer.
In 2014 after a second broken hip, Alice entered Highlands Lake Nursing Center where she lived to the age of 106. Alice is fondly remembered by many friends and relatives as a strong woman, although tiny weighing less than 100 pounds and being less than five foot tall, who fought the good fight and loved it all.
