

After graduating from McKendree College with an AB degree and from Vanderbilt-Peabody with an MS degree, Carrol entered the US Navy. He trained on the battleship Texas and served in the destroyer Brownson (DD518) until it was sunk by dive bombers in the Southwest Pacific. Lastly, he served on a sub-chaser in the Panama area and the East Coast of the US. Carrol's shore duty consisted of attending five Navy schools and brief duty time in San Francisco and Camp Wallace, Texas. He was released from the Navy in 1945, at Lt. JG.
After WWII, Carrol taught school and coached sports teams. He then went on to be the Superintendent of Schools in Illinois for 24 years. He also served as an administrator of senior living facilities for 2 years before moving to Florida. In his spare time, he enjoyed writing books and poetry.
Cecil is survived by his children, Kathleen Houmes (Norman), and James Lowe (Marline); two sisters, Mary Rodgers, and Clara Packard; grandchildren, Dannette Gomez, Sean Houmes, Chris Lowe, Jason Lowe, Brett Rumple, Eric Rumple, and Dustin Rumple; as well as numerous great and great-great grandchildren. He is preceded in death by his first wife, LaDonnah, and second wife, Margaret.

A graveside service for Carrol will be held Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 10:00 AM at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, 2200 K-Ville Ave, Auburndale, Florida 33823.
