Evelyn Marie Dumond , 85, of Winter Haven, Florida, passed away after a brief illness on June 18, 2026, less than four weeks after the passing of her childhood sweetheart and beloved husband of over 66 years, Thomas Dumond, Sr., who died on May 23, 2026.
Born in Waterbury, Connecticut, she was the daughter of the late William Levay, Sr. and Louise (Perugini) Levay. Evelyn was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother who had a remarkable gift for making everyone feel like family, paired with a feisty personality that was truly unforgettable.
Evelyn leaves behind her sons, Thomas Dumond, Jr. (Lisa) of Prospect, Connecticut; David Dumond (Angela) of Winter Haven, Florida; and Robert Dumond (Keri) of Watertown, Connecticut. She is also survived by her brother, Joseph Levay (Mary) of Waterbury, Connecticut, and her sister, Marguerite Levay LaCapra of Auburndale, Florida.
Evelyn was a proud and loving grandmother to Ashley Fern (Patrick) of Andover, Connecticut; Kelsey Alafriz (Jan) of Marietta, Georgia; Stephanie Narcisco (Andrew) of Cheshire, Connecticut; Deanna Dumond of Manchester, Connecticut; Jacob Dumond of Lakeland, Florida; Tiffany Geddings-Rhoton (Ken) of Lagrange, Maine; and Stefanie Daughtry of Winter Haven, Florida. She was also a cherished great-grandmother to Dakodah and Jameson Fern; Penelope and Archer Alafriz; Scarlett Narcisco; Arabella Daughtry; and Rosalie, Eli, and Joey Machowski.
In addition to the loss of her husband, Evelyn was predeceased by her beloved daughter, Donna Dumond; may they now rest together in eternal peace, reunited with love and comfort. Evelyn was also predeceased by her sister, Louise Guisto of Wolcott, Connecticut, and her brothers, William Levay, Jr. of Waterbury, Connecticut; John Levay and Richard Levay, both of Winter Haven, Florida; and James Levay of Oakville, Connecticut.
Evelyn loved spending time at the beach, whether on long weekends with Tom or on day trips with her children and grandchildren. She could often be found gathering shells for hours, savoring the simple joy of the shoreline. She was also widely known for her exceptional cooking—no one ever left her table hungry, and her treasured recipes are already being lovingly passed down through generations.
Evelyn also enjoyed a fulfilling later-in-life career as a nurse, a role that brought her great pride. Although she worked in many settings, her most rewarding experience was caring for children, dedicating many years to pediatric care until her retirement.
In anticipation of retirement, Evelyn and Tom built their dream home in Mountain City, Tennessee, where they spent nearly a decade enjoying a peaceful and fulfilling life together. Later, due to health challenges, they returned to Winter Haven, Florida, and more recently spent a brief time in Connecticut before their passing.
Evelyn will be remembered for her spirited sass, her honesty, and her unmistakable strength—but above all, for her immense heart and the unwavering love she poured into her family.
The family would once again like to give a very heartfelt thank you to Tom and Evelyn’s nephew, Daniel LaCapra, for all the love and care he provided to them over the many years.
Funeral Service will take place at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home. 2198 K-ville Ave, Auburndale FL 33823 on Thursday July 2, 2026. Visitation is from 9:30-11AM. Service begins at 11, followed by a committal at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens.
