Dr. Henry C. Hartje Jr., 84, passed away on October 3, 2011 in Lakeland, FL due to respiratory failure. Dr. Hartje was born in North Little Rock, Arkansas to Henry and Perlin Hartje. In 1954 he married his wife Betty in Munford, TN. They moved to Florida after Dr. Hartje had received his Doctorate from the University of Georgia. Dr. Hartje was a mathematics professor at Florida Southern College. During his time at Florida Southern, Dr. Hartje became the chairman of the mathematics department, a member of the thirty year club, and was honored Dr. Henry C. Hartje Jr., 84, passed away on October 3, 2011 in Lakeland, FL due to respiratory failure. Dr. as a Professor Emeritus. Dr. Hartje retired from Florida Southern in 2001. Dr. Hartje was of the Christian faith.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years, Betty Hartje, a daughter, Rhonda (Billy) Barstow, a son Eric Henry Hartje, a granddaughter, Heather Ayers, a brother, Robert (Martha) Hartje of Tennessee, and a sister Mary (William) Foreman of Colorado.
A Celebration of Dr. Hartje’s Life will be held at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale on Saturday October 8th from 1 to 4 pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hope Hospice.
