Loving wife, mother, grandmother from Lake Wales FL, formerly of Morton Grove IL, entered into eternal peace at home September 23, 2020, surrounded by her loving family.
Jean was born July 26, 1928 in Chicago IL to the late John W and Violet Koch.
Before moving to Florida, she was employed as a 411 operator for Illinois Bell Telephone until she took early retirement in the early 80’s. She was active as a den mother, helped design costumes and sets for the Morton Grove Lions Club shows, she was involved in hand making “HUG-A-BEARS” for the Telephone Pioneers group, these were given to police and fire departments to be handed to children in traumatic situations.
She was very artistic and creative; she made 3D pictures from cards, created shadow box rooms, designed Christmas tree scenes under glass domes.
In 1989, she and her husband John moved to Polo Park in Davenport FL, here she became active with the C.A.P. program, volunteered at Baseball City (which is now Posner Park Shopping Center). She continued making “HUG-A-BEARS”, she taught a water aerobics class in Polo Park, she designed and hand painted shirts/jackets, which she would take to sell at craft shows.
After the passing of her husband, she bought a home in Lake Wales FL (Lake Ashton), where she continued to make the “HUG-A-BEARS and quilts, then donated them the Give Kids The World.
She had an amazing sense of humor, loved traveling, going to live productions.
Jean was preceded in death by her parents Violet and John Koch, her husband of 65+ years John B. Hilkin (March 2016).
She is survived by her 3 children, son Stephen (Darlene) of Moscow ID, daughters Diane Banti (Gino) of Lake Wales, FL and Patricia Anderson of Winter Haven, FL, 4 grandchildren, Michael, Melissa, Jonathan, Joseph.
Arrangements have been entrusted to the Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home in Auburndale FL.
A memorial service has not yet been determined due to COVID19.
