June L. Hess

June L. Hess of Winter Haven Florida, beloved wife, mother, grandmother passed away on Tuesday, February 26th 2013 at Good Shepherd Hospice of Auburndale. Age 88 years, she was born on June 30th 1924 to the late George and Eleanor (Enlund) Barrette. She is survived by her beloved husband Robert “Bob” of 63 years, whom she married September 10th 1949 at her Lutheran church in Chicago Illinois. She is also survived by three loving children, Susan (Daniel) Burghart of Mont Claire VA, Tom (Cheryl) of Lake Villa Illinois, and Sally (Michael) Pawlak of Naperville Illinois, six grandchildren Robert, William, Benjamin, Jake, Julian, and Jordan and 3 nieces, Barbara (Robert) Murphy, Joyce (Dennis) Goodman and Jan Allnut. She is predeceased by her two older brothers George and Richard. June graduated from Carl Schurz High School, Class of 1942 and following high school she worked for Western Electric. She was trained and worked as a draftsman and did retire from Western Electric (AT&T) after her services were bridged in 1980. June also retired after 20 years of service from Jewel Foods, a large Chicagoland food store chain. June was an active member at The First Church of Lombard, United Church of Christ and a volunteer for many years at The Naper Settlement in Naperville IL, an outdoor pioneer museum. Retiring to Florida she and Bob were founding residents in Winter Haven Oaks and enjoyed the many social activities and was an enthusiastic participant with the community’s newsletter, holiday dinners and lunches, and the development of their clubhouse library. June’s true lifetime passion was her sewing and knitting which she graciously and generously shared with her friends and family.

June’s family would like to extend a special thank you to the office and nursing staff at Good Shepherd Hospice for their respectful and gentle care of her last days. There will be a memorial service held for June on Friday, March 8th at 11:00 am at the Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, 645 W. Central Ave Winter Haven.
