Louetta Marie Brackin
May 10, 1922 – March 8, 2018
Louetta Marie Brackin, 95, went to her eternal home in Heaven at 3:10a.m. on March 8, 2018. Louetta peacefully passed at home with her family. Louetta was born in Camden, South Carolina. Her father, Thomas Huggins, was owner of Huggins Vulcanizing and her mother, Carrie, was a home maker. She was a sibling to Fred, Vivian, and Louise. Louetta worked at Nettles Furniture and Hardware Store as a bookkeeper, Darr-Aero Flight School as a flight clerk, Camden Bus Station as a soda fountain waitress (where one of the highlights of her life was meeting Bing Crosby), Fort Jackson in Columbia as a clothing and equipment inspector, and Jaclyn Hosiery Mills, Inc. as a hosiery seamer. Louetta met James C. Brackin in 1956. They went on a couple of dates, then James proposed to her at the Barrel Restaurant in downtown Lake Wales. Louetta recalled that the proposal was stated, “If you want to marry me, we better do it now. I’m going to be stationed out, so if you’re going with me, you had better come on.” Then, he handed her an engagement ring. They were married on February 23, 1957 in South Carolina. They welcomed their first baby girl, Jeanette Marie, in 1958 and their second baby girl, Marietta Louise in 1959. Their lives together were lived in various states, where her husband was stationed with the United States Coast Guard. When James retired after 20 years and 3 months of service, they finally settled their family in his hometown of Lake Wales, Florida. James and Louetta were married for 44 years, having lived out their vows, only separated by the death of James. Their legacy includes their 2 daughters (one in Heaven, Jeanette Marie, and one on Earth, Marietta), 3 granddaughters (Kristin Smith, Anissa Hunt, and Tanya Silva) 7 great –grandchildren (Alaina, Brianna, Hannah, Alex, Bryleigh, Angelie, and Rosalind), and 1 great-great grandchild (Daeo) expected this summer.
Louetta enjoyed sewing, cooking, shopping, and attending church. She was one of Elvis Presley’s biggest fans. She was very fond of his music and his movies. She even had the opportunity to see Elvis live in concert with her daughter, Marietta, in 1976. Louetta created many beautiful and memorable memories with her children and grandchildren. Whether it was sitting on the back porch, trips to Bok Tower, or just all coming together under one roof, Louetta was the matriarch and heart of her family. Louetta will be deeply missed by all of her family and those who had the pleasure of calling her friend.
Visitation is Tuesday, March 13, 2017 from 2-3pm with funeral services at 3pm both at the funeral home chapel. Burial to follow in Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens.

Louetta Brackin is my Mother. She taught me perseverance, kindness, love, and strength. Her skin was flawless, and she always looked 20 years younger than her age. She took me to church. She didn't have to tell me that she loved me, because I knew it, by her smile and always being happy to see me.
To correct an error I made in her Obituary: Her father Dewey Huggins, owned his own business, Huggins Vulcanizing.
