Marlene Joyce Baxter

Born on November 15, 1932, in Valton, Wisconsin, Marlene was the daughter of Earl and Rose Armstrong. She cherished her childhood and often shared fond memories of playing with her parents and her two brothers, Roland and Merlin, while growing up in Milwaukee. She was preceded in death by her parents and both brothers.

Marlene attended Milwaukee State College, where she earned her teaching degree. She dedicated many years to educating children, teaching at Mary Williams School in Miami, Florida, and later serving as a preschool teacher at Covenant Child Development Center in Lakeland, Florida. Her passion for helping children extended beyond the classroom, as she volunteered for ten years at Highlands Grove Elementary School and was a former PTA President in Miami.

On November 21, 1964, Marlene married the love of her life, Carwin A. Baxter. Together they built a life centered on faith, family, and generosity, sharing more than 61 wonderful years of marriage.

Marlene loved traveling and proudly visited 49 of the 50 United States. She enjoyed sewing and cross-stitch, cooking and baking. Scrapbooking, arts and crafts, and sharing her talents with others brought her happiness.

Marlene is survived by her devoted husband, Carwin A. Baxter; her daughter, Lori Walsted, and son-in-law, Dennis Walsted; her grandson, Christian Walsted; her daughter, Jodi Baxter, and her significant other, George Cullison; her grandsons, Corey Cullison and Jacob Cullison; and her nephews, Scott Armstrong, Jeff Armstrong, Todd Armstrong, Rick Armstrong, and Kris (Armstrong) Schuh.

Marlene will be remembered for her gentle spirit, generous heart, unwavering dedication to children and education, creative talents, and the deep love she shared with her family and friends. Her kindness and faith touched the lives of many, and her memory will continue to inspire all who knew and loved her.

A graveside service for Marlene will be held on Friday, July 24, 2026 at 1:00 PM at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens, 2198 K-Ville Ave. Auburndale, Florida 33823.
