Sidney Martin “Tucker” Phillips, 93, died on July 14, 2011, at the Highlands Lake Center in Lakeland, FL of natural causes. He was born on May 29, 1918, in Indian Valley (Floyd County), VA to Guy B. and Ella Wade Phillips.
He was a veteran of the U.S. Army, serving in WWII. After his retirement from the N & W Railroad in Bluefield, WV, he and his wife moved to Lakeland, FL in 1980. He was a member of the Crystal Lake Baptist Church, Lakeland.
He was predeceased by: his wife Mary Frances Duncan Phillips; his brothers Arthur, Troy, Maynard, Calvin and Vernon; his sisters Treva and Effie.
He is survived by: his children Durwood Phillips (Connie Biby), Lenora Harris, Reta Hill (Dick), Guy Phillips (Carolyn); his sister Winnie Meredith and his brother Ted Phillips (Joyce), and sister-in-law Marlene Phillips; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank all his caregivers at Highlands Lake Center.
Visitation will be on Monday, July 18 at 10 a.m. at Ott-Laughlin Funeral Home, Auburndale, and the “Home-Going” service will be at 11 a.m.
