OBITUARY

Thomas Jefferson King Sr.

October 6, 1945May 2, 2021

It is with deep sorrow and much love that we mourn the passing of Thomas J. King Sr., of Winter Haven, FL on Sunday, May 2, 2021, at the age of 75 years.

Tommy was born on October 6, 1945 in Lawrenceburg, TN to Eunie and Johnny Thomas King. In 1962, he met the love of his life, Betty and would go on to say it was “love at first sight”. At the age of 19, he started working at a jewelry store in Nashville. Although he was hired to sweep and clean up, his curiosity about the business quickly lead to an apprenticeship which would later flourish into a life-long career as a jeweler. He would go on to open a Jewelry store in Brentwood, TN.

In 1982 he moved with his family to Winter Haven. He continued his career as a jeweler owning multiple jewelry stores around town, and working at Midas Jewelers for 27 years. Additionally, he was proud to work alongside his closest friend Max Mayer of Mayer’s Jewelers and Jerry and Shirley Goldsmith of G&S Jewelers.

He was a wonderful father who always took care of his children and did the best he could to teach and guide them. He was also a loving grandfather, his grandchildren and great-grandchildren refer to him as “Dedo”.

He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 58 years, Betty; children: Melody, Sissy (Tommy), and Jeff (Darla); grandchildren: Ashley (Adam), Jeffery (Amy), Tiffani (Brian), Matthew (Amber), Alyssa, Kyndahl, Garrett (Savannah); 10 great-grandchildren; siblings: Johnny (Lisa) and Glenda (Wayne).

Thomas was predeceased by his parents, Eunie and Johnny, and his sister Mary.

A graveside service will be held on Friday, May 7, 2021 at 10:30 a.m. at Glen Abbey Memorial Gardens in Auburndale, FL.

Oh....how we are going to miss you! When we were all much younger, and in Wahnetta Florida, We had the greatest of times. I remember the time that I made meatloaf for you all. Oh boy, ya really wanted some meatloaf. I guess the reason it stood out in my mind the most is because of your appealing laugh. It seem to light up the room everytime you chuckled. I can still hear you! I can only imagine the laughter we will hear in heaven. When I get there I'm sure I will be able to pick yours out from the crowd. We'll see you soon. Until then, set back and enjoy the Joys of the Lord!

I first met Mr. King when he was doing jewelry repair for Midas Jewelers & would run into him here & there when running errands after he retired. He would always take a minute to talk with me. He & his family are some of the nicest people I have met. Your family are in my thoughts & prayers & you will definitely be missed by all.
