Betty Goldman Steele

Betty, the widow of the late Orville G. Steele, Jr. And Loyd J. McGahee slipped into the arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on February 21, 2024. She was the daughter of the late, Henry Jasper Goldman and Alice Lawton Goldman Butler.

Betty was a native of Lincoln County, GA graduating from Lincolnton High School in 1955 where she was the class valedictorian, Bolen’s Business College in 1956 and Augusta Technical College. She has been a resident of Richmond County since June of 1955. She worked for the civil service at Fort Gordon as military personnel supervisory technician after 32 ½ years before retiring Oct 1998.

She was a long time active member of Lumpkin Road Baptist Church where she coached and played on the women’s softball team, worked many years as secretary in the Sunday School program, worked many years in both the baby and toddler nursery, and was the leader of Children’s Church Program for a time period. Later, she became a member of the Ambassador Sunday School Class.

In addition to her husbands and parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Jane Smalley; brother, Robert “Bob” Goldman, Ronnie Goldman and Racy Goldman; and great-grandson, Clarence S. McGahee Jr. Survivors include her sons, Tony A McGahee of North Augusta, SC, Clarence S. McGahee of Hephzibah, GA, Gerald B. Steele of Grovetown, GA; daughter, Teresa S. Long (Rev. Paul Long) of Pooler, GA; brother, Harvey A. (Doris) of Mount Pleasant, Billy Joel Goldman Jr. (Sandra) of Lincolnton, GA; and Raymond E Goldman (Cimp) of Bessmer, Al; 11 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, March 1, 2024 at Lumpkin Road Baptist Church with Rev. Paul Long officiating. The family will receive friends one hour prior at the church. Pallbearers who will honor Betty are her grandsons, Travis, Michael, Patrick, Ryan, Samuel, David, Luke and Shane. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to the American Cancer Society P.O.
