He was preceded in death by his mother and father, Zenia and Clyde Church; wife of 64 years, Elsa F. Church; son, Teddy Church and daughter, Shirley Walker.
Billy is survived by two daughters, Brenda (Roland) Abbey and Barbara (Tate) Terrell; son, Billy (Karen) Church, Jr.; brother, Fred Church; 13 grandchildren, 15 great-grandchildren and 1 great-great grandchild. He raised Samantha Waid, Amber Rice, Charles Church, Allison Prendergast and Austin McDaniel.
Billy had an extensive military career in the Secret Service. He was a Korean War Veteran, he also had a career in electrical engineering and mechanical engineering. He was a certified auto mechanic, certified in plumbing journeyman with a college Ged equivalent to a Master’s Degree.
He was retired from the military with 20 plus years, retired Medical College of Georgia with 30 plus years, volunteered his time as a commander for Post 178, American Legion. He was an active member for the 40/8 and VFW. He also volunteered his time honoring veterans with flags and ceremonies and fun carnivals for Gracewood residents, as well as being a train conductor for the 40/8 Train.
This truly remarkable man will be greatly missed.
The family will receive friends from 5pm until 7pm, Friday, January 28, 2022 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta.
Funeral Services will be held at 1pm, Saturday, January 29, 2022 in the chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Friends are welcome to attend the interment.
