He started his career as a combat engineer and bridge specialist and had some of his earliest memories of service while serving in the 541st Engineer Company (Float Bridge) in Schwetzingen, Germany from 1955 to 1958.
Upon returning to the United States, he began what turned out to be a life long experience in the legal field. His training and experience as a legal clerk, stenographer, court reporter and finally Sergeant First Class (E-7) Chief Legal Clerk all served to allow him to reach his goal of being appointed a Warrant Officer in the Legal Administrative Field in 1966. As all members of the Army do, he served in numerous places around the world including, Puerto Rico, Vietnam, Hawaii, Korea, where he was a member of the Civil Jurisdiction Subcommittee of the United States and Republic of Korea Status of Forces Agreement; The Judge Advocate General's Office, The Pentagon, Washington, D.C.; The Adjutant General's School, where he was responsible for the initial design of the Legal Clerk's Course; completed Warrant Officer Senior Course of Instruction at Fort Rucker, Alabama, and was ultimately assigned to the Staff Judge Advocate's Office of the U.S. Army Signal Center and Fort Gordon where he retired in 1978.

He met and married the love of his life, Glenda, shortly after being assigned to Fort Gordon. Upon retiring from the U.S. Army he was the Office Administrator for the law firm of Nixon, Yow, Waller and Capers for over ten years before moving to his final full time position with the law firm of Tucker, Everitt, Long, Brewton and Lanier in 1990 retiring at the age of sixty-five in 2002.
He was pleased to have lead the church fellowship group that met in his home every Thursday night since 1990 where the Lord's Word was discussed. He has stated many times that he wanted to be remembered as a loving husband, for serving his country in the U.S. Army and serving his Lord after being saved as a result of coming to know God through his wife. He hopes that he has lent meaning to the phrase, "Duty, Honor, Country" throughout these endeavors.
