Ed Herring joined his Lord and wife Margaret in heaven on his 83rd birthday. He passed away peacefully surrounded by his family shortly after a pulmonary embolism. Active to the very end, he loved his family dearly, and served his community, always there for those in need, particularly veterans with transportation and out reach. He had a passion for the game of golf (+12) and loved his crew at the Applewood course. He looked forward to the annual benefit for disabled golfers through Roger Peace Hospital in Greenville.
Born in Andalusia, Alabama he took his bride Margaret and growing family throughout the world as he served our country in the United States Army with service in Italy, Vietnam (twice), Thailand and Germany, "retiring" as a master sergeant.
His family grew to 3 sons, Sheldon Herring, Bruce Herring, Doug Burke, and their wives Carol, Nancy, and Karen. He greatly loved and was adored by his grandchildren Jodi, Kenny, Daniel, Rachel, Emily, and Teresa, who will miss his presence in their lives and his stories.
Also greatly loved are his lifelong friends and "big sister" Hazel Jordan and his nieces Paula and Suan and their families.
The family will receive friends Friday evening from 6-8 pm at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Lumpkin Road.
Graveside services will be held 1 PM, Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Bellevue Memorial Gardens.
In lieu of flowers the family has asked that donations be made to the adaptive golfing program at Roger C Peace Hospital in memory of Ed Herring (www.GHSgiving.org).
