

Claude William Dewberry, 85, entered into rest on December 11, 2021. Born on April 26, 1936 in Columbus, Georgia, CSM (Ret.) Dewberry was a decorated veteran who served in the Vietnam War. He spent 29 years serving in the U.S. Army Signal Corp where he earned various medals to include the Vietnam Campaign Medal, Vietnam Service Medal (3 campaigns) and the Meritorious Service Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters. He retired as the Command Sergeant Major assigned to the 366th Signal Battalion, 15th Signal Brigade at Fort Gordon.
CSM Dewberry is preceded in death by his mother, Ozema Jones, grandson, Adrian Mabrey, and great-granddaughter, Alexis Washington. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Mattie; brother, Joe Jones; daughters, Kim (Don) Hopson of Augusta and Vicki Dewberry of Union City; son, Vincent (Angela) Dewberry of Grovetown; 3 grandchildren, Dedorah (James) Hood of Catersville, Trevon Toon and Zariyah Dewberry of Grovetown; and great-grandson, Adrian Washington. Cousins, Judy Williams of Stone Mountain and Michael Pledge of Columbus; sister-in-law Fannie Davis of Columbus; devoted friends, Lewis (Lamptene) Arnold and Tillman (Francis) Wilson of Augusta, along with a host of other relatives and friends.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, December 16, 2021 from 6-7:30pm at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Road, Augusta, GA 30906. Funeral services will be held at 1pm on Friday, December 17, 2021 at the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Park, 2700 Deans Bridge Road, Augusta, GA 30906.
