Frieda Maria Summers “Lucy” passed away on Thursday, January 17th at the age of 82 with family and friends by her side. Frieda earned the nickname of Lucy because of her love for the I Love Lucy show, which actually taught her to speak English. She dressed like Lucy, wore her hair like Lucy and many times, like Lucy, she had some “splaining” to do.
She was born to the late Heinvich and Klana Schilling in Offenbach A-M, Germany. Frieda married Edgar Summers in 1955 in Klein Auheim Germany. She came to the U.S. in 1956 and received her citizenship in 1963 while in Louisiana. She was preceded in death by the late Edgar L. Summers, U.S. Army Retired, her husband of 33 years.
She is survived by her sister Sophie (Charlie) Green of Augusta, GA; children, Robert (Theresa) Summers, Barbara (Michael) Green, and William Summers. She has 8 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren.
She was a retired homemaker who devoted her life to family, church, quilting and cooking. She was an avid quilter at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Augusta, GA, as well as at Christus Victor Lutheran Church in Durham, NC. Frieda loved to cook and bake for everyone. This past year she pushed the ladies of the church to produce 201 quilts that went to World Relief efforts.
Following a short ceremony at 10:00am at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, Frieda will be laid to rest beside her husband at Hillcrest Memorial Park in Augusta, GA on Saturday, January 26th. Visitation will be at Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Friday, January 25th from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
