On the morning of December 13th, 2020, Mr. Gene Raymond Wilk, 77, former resident of Augusta, Georgia, met his Savior face to face in Heaven and he has now taken up permanent residency in his Father’s house. This fulfills a promise made to Gene when he accepted Christ as his personal Lord and Savior when he was 70 years old. John 14:1-2 NIV “Do not let your hearts be troubled. You believe in God; believe also in me. My Father’s house has many rooms; if that were not so, would I have told you that I am going there to prepare a place for you?” This was the greatest decision of Gene’s life and it has brought the most comfort and peace to his family members to know that one day they will all be together again.
Gene was born in 1943 and was a lifelong resident of Augusta, Georgia. He was the youngest child of the late Charles and Bertha Wilk. Gene was predeceased by his parents, his siblings and his son-in-law, Brad Williams. He was a dedicated and loving husband to his best friend, Rosemary, for 56 years. He is survived by his wife, Rosemary Wilk, and his adoring children and grandchildren. His children are Christina Williams, Geoffrey Wilk, and Shanda Kesler (Todd) and his grandchildren are Tristan Penn, Trent Williams, and Ansleigh Wilk. Gene had a close relationship with his wife’s family in Columbia, South Carolina, and they loved him very much. He was also loved by his many nieces and nephews who were crazy about their “Uncle Gene.” A special thanks to Gene’s best friend, Russell James, who has been a faithful friend to Gene and our family for many years.
Gene was a member of National Hills Baptist Church where he enjoyed being an active member of the Men’s Sunday School Class and also serving on the Security Team. Gene was a natural-born protector. When the family home caught fire in 1980 Gene risked his life and suffered burns rescuing his children from the raging fire. Gene will always be remembered as a humble Hero to his family.
Gene worked tirelessly to provide for his family members and was generous with all that he possessed. He was a faithful employee of Cardinal (Kendall Co.) for 47 years. He worked as a Lead Mechanical Specialist and he worked until the time of his passing. Gene enjoyed working and the friendship of his fellow workers.
Gene, also known as Pop, was very involved in the lives of his grandchildren. He loved spending time with them. Even as young men his grandsons still wanted to spend time with “Pop”. He was influential in molding Tristan and Trent into the men they are today. He was also proud of his only granddaughter, Ansleigh, and all her accomplishments.
Our faith and confidence is in the Lord’s promises that we will be reunited in Heaven one day. We are standing on the promises that God gave in 1 Thessalonians 4:16-17.
We would like to express our sincerest thanks for the many acts of kindness and prayers that have been a blessing to our family. Gene loved his church, National Hills Baptist, and if anyone would like to make a donation in Gene’s memory then please donate to the Building Fund: National Hills Baptist Church, 2725 Washington Road, Augusta, Georgia 30909.
