James Richard Free

Funeral services will be held on Friday, January 31, 2014 at 11am at in the Lumpkin Road Chapel of Elliott Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Hillcrest Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Timothy Free, Jeff Rodriguez, Adam Rodriguez, Robby Busbee, Garrett Busbee, and Kevin Browning

Born in Hancock County, TN, he was the son of the late Seldom Free, Sr., and Minnie Maggie Gibson Free. James retired after 33 years of service as a fabricator at Macuch Steel. James loved hunting, fishing, and spending time with his family. He was an avid Vols fan.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his daughter, Barbara Free Rodriguez, brothers, Seldom Free, Jr., Kenneth Jack Free, and Dewayne Ronald Free. He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Mabel Helton Free, children, Phillip Free, Blythe, GA, Melissa Busbee Carter, Augusta, GA, Sandra Crawley, Atlanta, GA, grandchildren, Timothy Free, Adam Rodriguez, Jessica Busbee, Garrett Busbee, Amanda Rodriguez, and Ian Plitcher.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, January 30, 2014 from 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN, 38105.
