

Lorene (Rene) was born December 20, 1936, in Plano, Illinois, to Wesley and Jemima Baker. The youngest of eight children, she is preceded in death by her parents, five brothers, two sisters, her husband Ray, her daughter-in-law, Vickie, and her great granddaughter, Makayla.
Rene was a savvy business woman, being the first female traffic manager at Plano Molding Company, in Plano, Illinois. She loved to oil paint as a hobby, winning several blue ribbons at the Sandwich Fair. After relocating to Georgia over thirty years ago, Rene was very active in her community. She was a secretary for many local churches in the Augusta area, and was an enthusiastic member of the Berlin Church women's group and choir. She cherished any opportunity to visit with family and friends, including her neighbor, Tina, her church sister Colleen, and all of her grandkids.
Lorene leaves behind her four children; Michael Schmidt (Connie), Steven Schmidt (Von), Kenny Schmidt (Candy), and DeAnna Durnal (Jim), as well as ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren, and seven great, great, grandchildren who will all miss her kindness and love and will always remember her as ‘Gram.’
A viewing will take place on June 15th, from 4pm-6pm at Elliott Sons Funeral Home, 2524 Lumpkin Rd. The funeral will take place on June 16th, from 11am-1pm, at Berlin Church, 1518 Heph-McBean Rd, with internment at the church cemetery to follow.
