Maria E. Coy, 65, of Thessaloniki Greece, passed away peacefully in her home in Hephzibah, Georgia on August 1, 2021. She is survived by her children John L. Coy and Elen R. Ellis and her grandchildren Veronica R. Ellis and Valarie S. Ellis.
Maria was born in a small village outside Thessaloniki, Greece to Hristos and Eleni Palamitzoglou on October 30, 1955. Maria had a difficult life growing up; she married young and became a widow at an incredibly young age. Despite that start, fate allowed her to find the love of her life, Ronnie L. Coy, a U.S. service member stationed in Greece. Maria devoted her life to that good man. Her life was never the same after Ronnie passed away on March 16, 1997.
If there was one thing that brought Maria happiness, it was sports. No matter what sport her children or grandchildren played, Maria travelled all over to watch. Be it football, wrestling, soccer, tennis, or softball, Maria’s voice would boom over the crowd in support. She was an absolute legend in the stands!
Maria was a life-long Green Bay Packers fan and she was never shy to let people know it. During football season, she would proudly display a Green Bay Packers banner outside her home and would scoff at her neighbors who displayed anything about an opposing team. This was especially true when it came to Tom Brady. The mere mention of his name would draw a passionate “Tom Brady can go to hell!” no matter what the circumstance. Football season will never be the same without her.
Due to COVID, a small memorial service for family members and close friends will be held privately at Elliott Sons Funeral Home with Sean Fulton of First Baptist Church of Vaucluse officiating. Her extended network of friends and associates will be welcomed to join virtually as the service will be streamed online.
Burial will follow at Arlington National Cemetery where Maria will be laid to rest alongside her husband so that they can be together forever.
