i seen the Swanee Quintet in Asheville NC, probably 30 years ago maybe 35. My father was the full-time southern gospel singer and he told me he heard like a set of this black gospel group that he just could not get enough of. About a month later he wanted me to go uptown with him for some reason he didn’t tell me, and it turned out to be on the greatest surprise of my life. At Brown Temple behind the police station in Asheville North Carolina I got to see the most dynamic and talented lead singer I’ve ever heard in my life. Not only was he spot on technically, he really knew how to work a crowd,& sell a song,It was only later that I realized he was not selling the song..., he was expressing how  he felt. He was letting you know how God made him feel during the song. I only got to see them once, and I’ve never forgotten ,it and I never will. Thank you brother, for enlightening everyone and shining your light for a little while on this dirty old mean world. Sleep well, you have earned it

As a former journalist with The Augusta Chronicle and Augusta Magazine, I had a several opportunities to spend personal time with the late Percy Griffin Sr. I just learned of his untimely death just days ago. I am both saddened and shocked. Special condolences to Percy's family. As a current resident of the Washington, DC region, I can truly say that Percy's personality via his world-famous group, the Swanee Quintet, has touched many souls nationally and internationally. His upbeat personality will be missed not only as a deacon at his church, but also with his singing group. As a member of the Macedonia Missionary Men's Male Chorus of Martinez, Georgia - I extend my condolences to our musician and brother in Christ, Mr. Percy Griffin Sr. ... Timothy Cox, Washington, DC.

My uncle Calvin Stewart who passed in 1992 of The CBS Trumpeteers song on many gospel programs together all the back to the late 50"s up until his death. I will miss that Beautiful voice that I have heard for 40 years of my life. I can remember back around 1975 when the Swanee Quintet would come to Abbeville .SC with other top Groups on a ticket for $3.00 a ticket. They would raise the top of the building when they would come on stage.I was a young guitarist just beginning to learn from them. I will always cherish every moment I had on programs with them.

WOW I'm listen to the Swanee Quintet CD in my car with brother Percy singing his song the Lord will provide. I use to love to see the Swanee Quintet when they came to Richmond Va. back in day. Brother Percy R.I.P.
