Augusta, Ga.- Richard Raymond Alfano, 73, entered into rest on September 6, 2018 at Augusta University Medical Center. He was an avid golfer who loved to be at the course with friends. He was also a devoted and loving father and grandfather. He will be deeply missed by all.
Rich was born June 10, 1945 in Waukegan, Illinois where he lived until moving to Augusta, GA. He served in the Army Reserves from 1969 to 1971. Upon his retirement from G.D. Searle, after working 20 years, he worked part time in the pro-shop at Green Meadows Golf Course.
He was preceded in death by his parents, John T. Alfano Sr. and Rose D. Alfano, and his brother, John J. Alfano Jr. Survivors include his two daughters, Michele Fanning (Joseph Lowery), Debbie Thompson (Chad); grandchildren, Matthew Fanning, Avery Thompson and Addison Thompson; sisters, Carol Turk and Betty Seger; nephews, Dean, Scott, and Ken Seger.
Pallbearers will be Matthew Fanning, Chad Thompson, Joseph Lowery, Steven Fanning, Jimmy Hughes, and Dennis Usry.
The family gives special thanks to Cardiac Critical Care Unit Nursing staff of Augusta University Medical Center for the care they provided to our dad.
Family will receive friends at the Elliott Sons Funeral Home on Lumpkin Road from 5 PM until 7 PM on Sunday, September 9, 2018. The funeral service will take place at 1 PM, Monday, September 10, 2018 at Elliott Sons Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Bellevue Memorial Gardens with military honors.
