It is with profound sadness that we announce that Alexandra “Lexi” Van Nostrand left this world too soon on March 10, 2026, at the age of 38. Our hearts are broken by her loss. She has touched many lives and she will be forever missed.
Born on September 8, 1987, in Rochester, NY, Lexi was a free-spirited, fiercely independent, and adventurous soul. She loved exploring new places, building a community around her, and living in the moment; always expressing her vibrant personality through a keen sense of fashion, style, and a recent collection of colorful wigs. Those who knew her will remember her beautiful singing voice and her uncanny, insightful perception of people. This gift was most evident during birthdays and holidays, where her presents were always deeply personal and perfectly chosen.
Lexi’s college years began with a testament to her resilience. Just as she arrived at Louisiana State University, Hurricane Katrina struck. During the evacuation, she found refuge with a new friend. They pledged the same sorority together, sparking a bond and a circle of friends that would define her time there.
Never one for the traditional corporate path, Lexi followed her heart across the globe—from volunteering to save turtles in Costa Rica to a marketing job pioneering social media for Blackline Systems in California. It was in California her talent and love of yoga grew. She studied to obtain an instructor certification and began teaching in Santa Monica. She fell in love with this lifestyle and was on the path she was meant to be on. She encouraged those around her to find what made them happy and pursue it.
She then moved to Maui, where she continued her yoga practice in addition to taking on many side-jobs—from zipline instructor to gardener. While there she built a large community of friends on the island that she explored the island with, spending many magical nights on the beach by a campfire.
In her late twenties, Lexi began experiencing mental health issues that impacted her independence. She believed a fresh start would help and began moving to different cities, eventually settling in Colorado. Through it all, Lexi carried a beautiful optimism and believed she would find her way back to her happiness. Her light and spirit will always be remembered.
Lexi’s legacy will continue to be celebrated by her parents, Rebecca and Lance; her brother, Connor; her grandmother, Sandra; and a large family of aunts, uncles, and cousins who will miss her greatly.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, David Van Nostrand and Ann Dziaminski; her uncle, Terrance Karpac; and her cousin, Daniel Karpac.
Lexi’s life was a tapestry of vibrant colors, music, and a constant search for the sun. We encourage all who knew and loved her to honor her memory by sharing stories, photos, and cherished moments on this memorial page.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to St. Francis Center (www.sfcdenver.org) or Colorado Coalition for the Homeless (www.coloradocoalition.org).
