Camellia Fontaine Fletcher was born on August 16, 1943, in Kansas City, Missouri, to Carl Benjamin Fletcher and Alyce Welch. She was the eldest of four children: Lawrence “Terry” Fletcher, Michael “Mickey” Fletcher, and Dennis Fletcher.
Her early years were spent in Missouri and Kansas, where she grew up with a strong sense of family and responsibility. After graduating high school, Camellia moved to Arizona to attend college. Following the untimely passing of her mother, she took on the role of guardian and caretaker for her younger brothers. Balancing work, school, and family, she demonstrated resilience and determination. Camellia graduated from Arizona State University with a Master of Social Work degree on June 2, 1972.
In time, Camellia relocated to Denver, Colorado, where many of her extended family members lived. Gifted with a sharp mind and a talent for numbers, she held various positions over the years and eventually found her professional home at the Douglas County Assessor’s Office, where she worked until retirement.
Never one to remain idle, Camellia launched her own tax preparation business, “Solid Gold Taxes.” At its peak, she served over 200 clients, many of whom became lifelong friends. Even as health issues emerged, she continued serving a loyal group of 75–80 clients with the same dedication and care. Camellia was known not just for her accuracy and professionalism, but for her personal touch and deep commitment to the people she served.
Camellia also gave generously of herself to her family. She lived for a time with her Uncle Roy and Aunt Maeleen Fletcher, providing companionship, support, and even handyman services when needed. Her presence was a source of strength and comfort to them both.
A woman of deep faith, Camellia was an active member of several churches during her lifetime. In Denver, she began at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church and later joined Progressive Missionary Baptist Church, where she sang in the choir, participated in the missionary ministry, and enjoyed Bible study. In her later years, she worshipped at True Light Baptist Church.
On the morning of June 19, 2025, Camellia peacefully entered eternal rest and was welcomed home by her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ. She was preceded in death by her parents, her brothers Terry and Mickey Fletcher, and a sister.
She leaves behind a legacy of love, perseverance, and service. Those who will forever cherish her memory include her sisters, Pamelta Obange and Thurline Ausler, both of Denver, CO; her brothers, Bilal Hajj of Detroit, MI, and Cornelius Fletcher of Dallas, TX; two nephews, Benjamin and Alexander Fletcher; numerous cousins; and a host of other relatives and dear friends.
Camellia's love, laughter, wisdom, and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who were blessed to know her.
A memorial service for Camellia will be held Saturday, August 16, 2025 from 11:00 AM to 12:30 PM at St. Stephen Missionary Baptist Church, 2050 Uinta St, Denver, CO 80238.
