Derald Duwain McCullick, 89, passed to his heavenly home April 3rd, 2021 with his wife, Arlene McCullick, by his side at Life Path Hospice Home in Sun City, Florida. Derald was born November 14th, 1931 to Otto and Marie (Reistad) McCullick in Gays Mills Crawford County, Wisconsin. Derald grew up on a farm which he loved. He graduated high school in 1950 and a few years later enlisted in the Air Force. Derald received an honorable discharge in 1956 after serving time in Korea. Derald went to the College of Staten Island in New York and also studied at a college in Colorado sometime later. After he moved to Colorado, Derald worked for Western Electric (now Nokia) as an electrical engineer. He retired in 1994.
Derald met Arlene in 1949 at a high school in Bosocbel, Wisconsin. He would walk her to her bus and later she became friends with the family with many visits to the farm. After Derald joined the Air Force, he and Arlene each went their separate ways but a bond always remained and came together again in 2008. They were married in a park in Acworth, Georgia on November 2, 2009 and renewed their vows in the church on May 10th, 2010. In 2019 they moved to Florida.
Derald loved to play golf, dance, walk with nature, travel, put together puzzles, and play cards. He belonged to the American Legion and Knights of Columbus. His love of God was incredibly strong. Even in his last days he thanked God for everything in his life. He belonged to the catholic church in Georgia and then Hope Lutheran Church in Colorado where he became an elder.
Derald is survived by his wife, Arlene Elizabeth (Schwab) McCullick, a son, Gregory Anthony McCullick from a previous marriage, a granddaughter, Kristin Cogar, two great grandsons, Marvin III and Noah Cogar, 2 brothers, Vester (wife, Eileen) McCullick, Jerry (wife, Mary) McCullick, a sister, Judy (husband, George) Clark, and brother in-law Mike Gilomen and a number of nieces and nephews. He is proceeded in death by his parents, four sisters, Myrna Gilomen, Betty (husband, Bob) Bromkamp, Carol (husband, Don) Winkers, and Kay (husband, Arnold) Swenson, and brother-in-law Everett Rice.
A memorial service will be held at Hope Lutheran Church in Aurora, Colorado with burial services at Fort Logan in Denver Colorado. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any gifts be sent to Hope Lutheran Church.
