CSM (Ret.) Donald Ralph Sexton, husband of Melendre Rico Sexton passed away Monday May 10, 2021 at the side of wife, in Aurora, CO. He was born July 26, 1939 in Baltimore, MD, the son of Ralph F. Sexton and Mary Burke (Wilt) Sexton. He served his country in the US Army for over 30 years. Upon retirement he worked in civil service at Fitzsimmons Army Hospital and Lowry Air Force Base in Colorado.
Don graduated from Southern High School in Baltimore and finished his bachelor’s degree in Business Administration at the University of Maryland. During high school he was editor of the school newspaper, was on yearbook staff and participated in speech competitions. He wrestled in high school as well as in the Army. He loved playing cards with his friends as well as his veteran buddies every week. Don was a member of the DAV, the Fil-Am Club, and Pinochle Club. He loved traveling with his wife, Melen and no matter where he went he never met a stranger. In his later life he selflessly cared for his wife and loved keeping up with his extended family through calls and social media.
Donald is survived by his loving wife and best friend, Melen of Aurora, CO; his three children, David Michael (Doreen) Sexton of Pamplin City, VA, Douglas Ralph (Sharie) Sexton of Lancaster, NY, and Diane Elizabeth (Tim) Robson of Toney, AL. He leaves behind 9 grandchildren, and 9 great-grandchildren and two on the way. He is also survived by a sister, Shirley Sexton Sutton, of Mountain Home, AR as well many nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother and father, as well as his great-grandson, Cody Giovanni Mazza.
As the years went on, Don loved the truth that Jesus proclaimed in John 14: “I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.”
Private funeral services with full retired Army military honors will be held at 2:15 PM on Thursday, May 20, 2021, staging area "C" at Ft. Logan National Cemetery in Denver, CO. A celebration of life service will be held at a later date.
