It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of a truly extraordinary woman — a devoted mother, cherished Oma, loving wife, and fearless soul. Goldeen was born in Durand, Michigan on February 12, 1933 and passed away in Aurora, Colorado on July 22, 2025. She lived a life marked by resilience, grace, and unwavering love.
Goldeen met and fell in love with James Van Meer, Sr. and they married. As the wife of a proud Lt. Colonel and second-in-command, she embraced her role with pride, orchestrating elegant and thoughtful gatherings for fellow officers and their families — always with impeccable taste and a personal touch. She took great care in making others feel welcome and celebrated, embodying the true spirit of service and community.
A gifted musician, she played both the organ and the trombone, and filled countless spaces with the joy of her singing voice. Her music reflected the vibrancy of her spirit — bold, expressive, and full of life.
She began her professional life in banking, working her way up to district manager, a position that reflected her determination and strong leadership. Later in life, guided by love and a desire to be close to her grandchildren, she changed careers and became an arraignment clerk at the courthouse, working faithfully until the age of 80.
She was a woman of deep compassion, strong convictions, and unshakeable resolve. Assertive and fearless, she faced life’s many challenges with courage and tenacity. Even in times of great adversity, she remained steadfast — a doer, always making sure things were done right.
She carried herself with dignity and poise, never leaving the house without looking her very best — a reflection of the era she came from and the pride she took in all that she did.
She is preceded in death by her beloved husband, James, Sr. She leaves behind two sons, Alvis (Barbara) and James, Jr.; several grandchildren, and many great-grandchildren who will forever carry her strength, love, and legacy in their hearts.
She will be dearly missed, but her light, her love, and her example will continue to shine in all those who were blessed to know her.
A gathering and visitation will be held on Thursday, July 31, 2025 from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM at Advantage Aurora Chase Chapel, 1095 Havana Street, Aurora, CO 80010; followed by a graveside service at 1:00 PM at Fort Logan National Cemetery, 4400 W Kenyon Ave, Denver, CO 80236.
