Jim was fourth child of Burton and Velma Burnet. His young years were spent on the family farm, going to country school and then to high school in Bennett.
After graduating he went to work for Western Union which gave him a chance to see a great many of the states. Various other jobs followed but in 1967 he and his brother Ben bought the Air Park truck stop on Highway 36 near Watkins and starting farming the old home place. After selling the truck stop he went to work for Sun Gas as plant operator for 20 years and continued farming. After retiring from there he continued farmed and raising cattle until his death.
He is survived by his wife Kitty, sons Jim Neely, Steven Myers, Ty Burnet, Clint Burnet and daughter Barbara Bang. Sister Donna Lancaster, brothers Bob and Ben Burnet and 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
