He was born July 24, 1943 in Batesburg, South Carolina to James Smith, Sr. and Ernestine Martin. His parents and a sister, Annie Lee Smith, preceded him in death.
James was a United States Air Force veteran and had been retired from his paper supply and packaging business for nearly 10 years. He is survived by his daughter Zarie Renee Smith of Siletz, Oregon, son James Leon Smith, Jr. Daughter-in-law Truly Smith and three grandsons: Cameron, Mitchel and Morgan Smith of Centennial, CO. Sister, Christine Waldron and niece, Nikki Waldron, of St. Louis, Missouri, and many friends and family in Batesburg, South Carolina.
