Joy Ann Colemere passed away peacefully on January 14, 2020 in Las Vegas, NV, where she had lived with her son from 2017. Her husband, stepson, daughter, six older sisters, and their husbands, and her parents preceded her to Glory. Her son, Dwight Colemere, four grand sons, David and Tyrone Colemere, and Robert and Allan Cook, two great-grandchildren, and 19 nieces and nephews survive her. Joy was born on May 11, 1934 at her parent’s home in Denver, Colorado. She was the youngest of seven daughters born to John Henry and Edna May Buxton.
Joy graduated from South High School in Denver, Colorado, then attended Western Bible Institute in Englewood, Colorado and studied choral music. She retired from the Colorado Secretary Of State’s office in 1999. She was active in her current church, All Saints Episcopal Church Las Vegas. She had joined the Episcopal Church after marrying her husband Irwin “Red” Colemere, and was a choir member until her retirement in 1999. She was known by all her family and friends for her love of family, Sacred Music, gardening, fishing, and owls.
Funeral services will be held at her former church, Epiphany Episcopal Church, 100 Colorado Blvd., Denver Colorado at noon on Monday, February 3, 2020. Internment service will follow at Fort Logan National Cemetery at 2 PM.
