

Lois R. Brinton, 91, passed away Saturday August 9th, 2014. Survivors include daughter Lynette Boekhoff of Minneapolis, son Lawrence Brinton of Denver, 4 grandchilden, 3 great-grandchildren, 1 sister, 4 nephews, and 1 niece. She was preceeded in death by her husband, Robert, her sister Louise Whitney, 3 brothers, and one nephew.
She was a member of St. Matthew Lutheran Church in Aurora, where she was elected as the first woman to serve on the church council. She was past Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star in Hotchkiss, Colorado. She was a member of the Aurora Retired Teachers Association (retiring in 1982), and of Sigma Sigma Sigma sorority.
She was named an Unsung Hero by the Kiwanis Club for outstanding youth and community work in Aurora. She is past president of the Colorado High School Press Association. Her students at Aurora Central High School won numerous state and national awards for the high school paper. She also sponsored school and community groups including Girl Scounts, Cub Scouts, and 4-H Club. She enjoyed crossword puzzles (which she filled out with a pen), reading and traveling (especially to Europe). She skied until she was 70.
