Marianne Ilse Zollo

Marianne was born in Stuttgart, Germany on March 10, 1932, to Jacob and Maria Nonnennmann. She survived her siblings, brother Erik and sister Charlotte. Marianne met and married William (“Bill”) Zollo in Stuttgart, Germany while Bill was serving in the military. Marianne and Bill traveled around the world and raised five children together, creating a loving home everywhere they lived. Faith and family were important to them; they were happiest, surrounded by family and friends and often had a houseful of people to feed and visit with. They loved entertaining and filled their home with warmth and kindness. They enjoyed cooking together and were creative and talented cooks, experimenting with different techniques and recipes. Marianne’s Christmas cookies, cakes, chocolates, and other confections were well known to those that she loved. Marianne and Bill retired in Augusta, GA and Marianne continued to live there even after Bill’s death in 2004. She moved to Aurora, Colorado to live with her son and his family in 2015.

Marianne touched all that knew her with her warmth, kindness, generosity, and positivity. She was never one to complain and faced every new day with an optimistic outlook and great inner strength. She had many hobbies throughout her life, including needlepoint, crocheting, knitting and was an avid gardener. She was a talented seamstress for over 70 years. At the age of 83, her daughter-in-law Beth helped her tackle a lifelong dream of learning how to make quilts. She completed hundreds of quilts that she gifted to family and friends all over the world. Marianne loved everything about Christmas, especially Santa Claus. This passion for all things Christmas led Marianne to make hundreds of Christmas stockings each year for a local quilt shop, that were filled and donated to soldiers serving overseas. Sewing was truly Marianne’s joy and passion that she enjoyed throughout her entire life. Through this passion she made many friends at local quilt shops where she was known as Mama Zollo – everyone loved her.

Marianne was preceded in death by her parents and siblings, husband, and her oldest daughter Monika (Andy) Masone, grandson William Masone, great-great-granddaughter Charlotte Tatum. She is survived by her daughters Irene (Carl) Carver, Janice (Larry) Pasquale, son William (Beth) Zollo, and daughter Constanza (Ashby) Bridges. Marianne is also survived by 25 grand, great-grand, and great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by three dogs that she adored taking care of.

A private celebration of life will be held in the future. The family requests that, in lieu of flowers, those that wish to recognize Marianne’s passing donate to their favorite charity in her name.
