Patricia Susanne Zimmer

Pat was born on April 22, 1951 in Marshalltown, Iowa, the daughter of Peter and Phyllis (Novotny)

Zmolek. She graduated from Garwin High School in 1969 and the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa. She had a long and successful career in medical underwriting and marketing positions, working at St. Paul Insurance and Copic Insurance companies and retired in 2012. Following retirement, she enjoyed working at Christopher & Banks for several years.

Her daughter, Lindsay (father-Jack Zimmer), was the joy of her life. She assured that, from the time

Lindsay was a young girl through high school, she had opportunities to perform and travel to local,

regional and national dance competitions. One of her fondest memories was she and Lindsay

performing in the Nutcracker ballet together. She very much enjoyed traveling (Maui being

her favorite island, Santa Fe being her favorite city, as well as trips to Eastern Europe and Italy).

Pat was the family historian and researched genealogy extensively on her father’s side of the family. That information allowed other family members to learn about their ancestors, priceless and treasured by all. She completed the requirements to place the family who emigrated from Bohemia (Czech Republic) to the United States, Josephus Zmolek and Frantiska (Mrtka) Zmolek, on the Wall of Honor at Ellis Island.

Pat was known for her thoughtfulness and generous spirit, fun-loving personality, and quick wit.

She enjoyed following a variety of college and professional sports teams. Often, she would watch games and listen to music with friends at Sheabeens Irish Pub, a bar owned by her special friend Andy. Always loyal to her Iowa roots, she kept track of both the Cyclones and Hawkeyes, and especially enjoyed following the success of the Iowa Hawkeyes women’s basketball team in recent years.

She is survived by her daughter, Lindsay Zimmer (Jed O’Rourke) of Sarasota, FL, her siblings: Kathy

Condon (Broomfield, CO), Darrell (Judy) Zmolek (Dubuque, IA), Marcia (Tyler) Forman (Boulder, CO), Colleen (Mark) Springer (Marshalltown, IA), Tom Zmolek (Des Moines, IA) and step-brother Roger Plum (Adel, IA). She is also survived by numerous nieces/nephews and grand-nieces/nephews. Preceding her in death are her parents, Peter and Phyllis Zmolek; an infant daughter Stephanie Zimmer; paternal and maternal grandparents; her stepmother, Geraldine (Gettle Plum) Zmolek; and stepsister Pam (Joe-deceased) Scalise.

Condolences may be sent to Lindsay at the funeral home; and donations/memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice. She always wanted everyone to be taken care of (including any/all animals) and every penny counts. Please keep the generous giving spirit alive.
