Ruby Lucile Deal

Mrs. Deal passed away Thursday, February 5, 2015 at her home in Lawton.

Burial will be in the Fort Logan National Cemetery, Fort Logan, CO under the direction of Advantage Aurora Chase Chapel, Aurora, CO.

Local arrangements are under the direction of Becker-Rabon Funeral Home.

Visitation in Lawton will be Monday, February 9, 2015 at Becker-Rabon Funeral Home, with family to greet friends from 12pm until 4pm. No local services are scheduled.

Mrs. Deal was born August 9, 1922 on a farm in Nobles County, MN to Johann (John) Sebastian and Henrietta Homfeld Gunderman. She was raised on the family farm and attended a one room schoolhouse. In 1939, at the age of 16, she was the Valedictorian of the Fulda High School graduation class. She was a teletype/telegraph operator in Washington D.C. during WW II. She married James E. Deal at the Los Angeles County court house on June 14, 1944. Ruby and Jim had four daughters and one son. Her husband Jim, who retired from the Air Force, died on May 15, 1977. She loved her family, her home and her rose garden. She began playing the church organ at age 15 and her service to the church and her Lord continued throughout her life. She was proud of being a military wife and enjoyed the associated travel. She was a lifelong Lutheran and studied her Bible daily. She loved knitting and was a world class seamstress. She was a voracious reader, cared for others and was known for her big smile.

Survivors include 4 daughters and sons-in-law; Kathleen and Kenneth Jarchow of Houston, TX, Leslie and Henry Griner of Elk River, MN, Margaret (Meg) Deal-Saul and Arthur Davis Saul III of Lawton, OK, Janet Deal and David King of Lakewood, CO, 7 grandchildren, Shannon Jarchow of Roanoke Rapids, NC, Patricia and husband Michael Jensen of Houston, TX, Jaimie Griner of Elk River, MN, Gwendolyn de Carvalho of Minneapolis, MN, Nathaniel and wife Nadine Griner of Columbia, SC, Joanna and husband Benjamin Overly of Redding, CA, Jared Griner of Elk River, MN, 5 great grandchildren, Nathan and Daniel Jensen, Zarah Griner, Trinity and Ruby Overly and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, infant son James (Jimmy), 5 brothers, Martin, Erich, Alfred, William and Edwin Gunderman and 4 sisters, Martha (inant), Lora Horn, Adeline Clark and Helen Hebbert.
