She was raised in Fontana, CA with her only sister, Dorothy. They were deeply cherished and loved by both parents. The girls enjoyed annual summer vacations to Pennsylvania and membership in the Girl Scouts and the rainbow girls, as well as the Lutheran Church.
She graduated from Chaffey Union High School in Fontana, CA in 1953, then married Donald J. Foster and went on to raise five children. The Air Force family lived in Okinawa, Idaho, California, Nevada and Colorado.
She earned her nursing degree in 1975 and retired from health care after 35 years in 1989. Throughout her life Shirley constantly participated in Bible study classes and was a member of Living Hope Community Church. Shirley was known as a woman of dignity and faith. Her children, nine grandchildren and four great grandchildren are described as the "love of her life." Her gracious, persevering and meek spirit will be truly missed.
