April 22, 1959 - January 11, 2024
It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Sondra Grace McFall-Few, affectionately known as Koochie, on January 11, 2024. Born in New York City on April 22, 1959, she was a cherished daughter to Yvonne and William McFall and the sixth of eight siblings.
Sondra was a beacon of strength and love within our family. Named after her grandmother Grace, she embraced her name with pride and became a protective force for all her loved ones. She shared an unbreakable bond with her siblings, especially Paula and David, with whom she enjoyed countless cherished moments.
A proud alumna of PS146, Junior High School 80, and the inaugural class of Harry S. Truman High School in the Bronx, Sondra’s academic excellence was matched by her passion for poetry, which became her voice and solace. In 1984, Sondra’s adventurous spirit led her to Denver, Colorado, a place she fell in love with while on vacation. She made Denver her home, and in 1991, she married Michael Few, joining two families already connected by the marriage of Michael's sister Dee to Koochie's brother Booda.
Sondra and Michael's home in Denver became a hub of joy, hosting numerous family celebrations and marking milestones with her many nieces and nephews, friends and loved ones. Sondra's professional journey included impactful tenures at Planned Parenthood, American Century, and Staples, where she not only excelled but also formed enduring friendships. Despite the distance, Koochie's heart never strayed far from her New York roots. She maintained close ties with her family, particularly the younger generations, ensuring that the bonds of kinship remained strong.
A remembrance from niece Aishah: ‘Late night conversations and laughter is what I’ll remember. Head massages before I get my hair done, cooking and laughing while telling stories. Late night treats while watching movies because we were both night owls. I have so many memories with you because you helped raise me and my sister. My aunt who would always go far and beyond for me. My aunt who was fiercely protective of us and did everything in her power to make sure we knew how loved and blessed we are. Always making photo collages with poems of different stages of my life. Always making sure I knew the power I had in my pen and paper. Love you always and forever.’
A remembrance from niece Jade: “Aunt Koochie had a remarkable spirit that touched everyone she met. Her generosity knew no bounds, and her wisdom was a guiding light for many. Whether through her comforting words or the simple joy she found in life's little moments, she made our world brighter. As a niece, I have been privileged to share countless cherished memories with Aunt Koochie. From family gatherings to quiet conversations, she enriched my life in ways words cannot express. Her legacy of love and compassion will forever live on in our hearts.”
Sondra is preceded in death by her father William, her mother Yvonne, and her sister Linda. Her legacy is carried on by her devoted husband Michael, her loving siblings William (Booda), JoAnn, Dora, Alex, Paula, David, her sister in laws Candi and Allyce, and a vast family of uncles, aunts, cousins, nieces, and nephews who will miss her deeply.
We invite you to join us in celebrating Sondra’s remarkable life and the light she brought into this world. Her spirit, her love, and her protective embrace will forever be remembered.
Rest in peace, dear Sondra “Koochie”. Your memory will forever be a blessing to us all.
