Ying Wah Wong, aged 81 of Aurora, passed away peacefully on the morning of May 16, 2020. She was born in the Guangdong province of China in 1939. As a child, Ying lived in the shadow of the Japanese occupation of China. Ying survived this precarious time and relocated by herself to Hong Kong in 1960. In Hong Kong, she married Stephen Sit Pui Wong who preceded her in death in 1993. They immigrated to the United States in 1969 and established new lives in Aurora, CO. Ying is survived by her children, Marina (Harvey), Peter (Missy), Laura (Paul), and John (Margaret) as well as 9 grandchildren.
Ying was a petite woman with a friendly and outgoing personality. She worked as a seamstress / factory worker in various companies like Gerry, Skea, Simmons and Samsonite. Her favorite pastime was growing fruits and vegetables including juicy white peaches and giant squash. She enjoyed sharing what she grew with family and friends. The only time she stopped gardening was to temporarily relocate to Oregon and California to take loving care of her newborn grandchildren. Before anyone had heard of the term 'green living', Ying was a champion of growing your own food, reducing waste, repurposing items, and limiting material goods.
Private funeral services will be held Friday, May 29. A celebration of her life will be held at a later date.
