

On June 4th, 2015, Alan Malcolm Davie, aged 86, passed away peacefully in the comfort of his home with his loving family around him. Al lived a life filled with the joys of family and friends. Al was born in North Bay, grew up in the St. Clair area of Toronto until moving to Aurora in 1959. His father owned an ice cream factory in Toronto where he started his lifelong love of ice-cream. Al was a graduate of the University of Toronto and OISE. He was a well-respected math teacher, guidance councilor and coach at Dr. G.W. Williams S.S., in Aurora, from 1959-1989. Basketball and football were lifelong passions which he played as a youth and coached in high school. He always looked forward to watching March Madness, the NFL and the Grey Cup each year. Alan treasured his time spent at Wasaga Beach, first, as proprietor of Starlight Gardens Motel, and later, as a cottager eating ice-cream at Lorna Doone's with his extended family. As a young man Al developed a deep appreciation of jazz music. He collected an extensive record collection while also being a member of two Jazz societies. Al loved lively debates on a multitude of topics. He also enjoyed travel, watching movies and plays with his family, reading a good book or playing cards. Al was predeceased by his brother Ray, his sister Eileen, and his parents Robert and Iva Jane Davie. Al was married to the love of his life Melba Joy Annie (nee Dearing) for 63 wonderful years. He is survived by his four sons Jeff (Louisa), Brad (Jocelyn), Brian (Gail), Murray and by his eight grandchildren Rachel, Luke, Dylan, Isaac, Colin, Matt, Tyler, Charlotte, and by his two great-granddaughters Emily and Lila. Al was an uncle and great-uncle to many beloved nieces and nephews. Visiting will be held at the Thompson Funeral Home (530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora) on Monday from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Funeral Service will be held in the chapel on Tuesday at 1:00 o’clock. Cremation to follow. In lieu of flowers, donations to Habitat for Humanity, one of Alan’s favorite charities, would be appreciated by the family.
