OBITUARY
Alexander Nelson Charles Morris
November 25, 1926 – January 9, 2021
Alexander Nelson Charles Morris (Alec), 94, of Aurora, Ontario, passed away on Saturday, January 9, 2021, surrounded by his family.
He was born to parents Nelson Charles Morris and Mildred Morris, on November 25, 1926, in Eastbourne, a town on England's southeast coast. After the loss of his mother when he was six, Alec had to grow up quickly and help take care of his younger sibling. His childhood was set in the shadow of the Second World War, which influenced his life. Alec completed school in London and towards the end of the war was trained as an electrical technologist.
He married Patricia (Pat), the love of his life in 1950, shortly after the two of them immigrated from England to Canada. Their married life spanned almost 70 years, a remarkable testament to the strength of their love for each other. In 2019, Pat passed away and took half of Alec's soul with her. We take comfort in knowing they are now reunited and watching over their loved ones. Alec is survived by loving daughters Janet Eveleigh (Doug), Barbara Lane (Rich) sons Stewart Morris (Morag) and Geoff Morris, as well as grandchildren Heather, Ryan, Kristen, Jamie, Stephanie, Wesley and Connor and great-grandchildren Emmerson, Brandon, Malcolm, Meredith, Victoria, Savannah, Evelyn, Henley and Everett.
Alec was known for his love of family above all else and was also a loyal friend. Following his retirement from Teleglobe Canada, where he worked for 30 years across the country in Montreal, Vancouver Island and Newfoundland, he and Pat moved to Kingston where his focus outside his family included travel, reading, theatre and the outdoors, as well as various environmental causes and other charities. Alec was also very active in the retiree community and enjoyed providing medical drive services to local seniors and received an award for his many years of dedicated service.
The memorial service will be held on Friday, January 15, 2021, at 11 a.m. at the Thompson Funeral Home, burial to follow at Aurora Cemetery. A web streaming service will be available in lieu of in person attendance due to the pandemic gathering restrictions.
If desired, donations would be appreciated to UNICEF, Greenpeace (Alec’s favourites) or a charity of your choice.

Sending love to you all from Wales. It was a beautiful service and we have some very fond memories of Alec. Your mum and dad were frequent visitors to the UK and Alec loved nothing better than to get involved. He was in the UK when Joan and Morris moved back to Eastbourne from Bromley and he went to help with the move. He drove ahead with Basil and on the way they stopped at a roadside diner for ‘ breakfast’. Having just finished eating bacon and eggs, my parents arrived for lunch so, without leaving the table , he ordered fish and chips! Happy memories!
We feel blessed that he has kept in touch with us for all these years, sending us news and photos of you all.
With love from Basil, Judith, Rachel, Dafydd and Ioan.

Many of my earliest memories of of your parents. They were great friends of my parents. They came to my high school graduation. They were at my wedding. When my mother broke her hip in 1984, my father was away on a business trip. I didn’t know what to do so I called Alec. He and Pat came to the hospital and Pat stayed with my mother while Alec drove me home to pack some things for my mother. They were there through thick and thin. I am grateful for their presence in my life and will always keep fond memories of them in my heart. I am very sorry for your loss.
With my deepest sympathy,

Thank you for the beautiful service. It was nice to learn more about the life of the my first neighbour.
My son William is now the same age I was when I used to chat away to Alec and Pat. I understand now what my mom means when she praises how patient they were with me. Alec would calmly listen while I blabbed away in gibberish. I still see him tending to his yard, rake in his hand and cap on his head. He was a good neighbour and kind man. I miss him and hope to see him again some day.
My deepest condolences to the whole family .

I was able to attend the celebration of his life virtually. What a lovely tribute to your Dad. I remember his quiet strength and the twinkle in his eyes. " Be happy for today, because of yesterday." May peace be with you.

We just wanted to send our love and best wishes to you all, from all of us in the UK. It was a lovely service and we have just looked at all your wonderful photographs. I have a lovely memory of Auntie Pat and Uncle Alec on one of their visits to England. We were all sat around Grandma and Grandad’s dining table at their house on Durham Road in Bromley. I was really young but still remember quite vividly that it was a lovely, sunny afternoon filled with laughter and fun. I have such warm, fond memories of Uncle Alec. I was only telling Al a few weeks ago about Mum and Dad’s amazing trip to Canada and how welcome you all made them. I said then how lovely it would be to visit Uncle Alec and to meet you all. So sad that we will no longer be able to see him, but one day we hope to come. Uncle Alec was so good at keeping in touch and maintaining the family link across the sea, I think it would please him greatly to know that we continued where he left off. We will do our best.

To Stewart, Janet, Barb, and Geoff,
I have so many fond and cherished memories of both your mom and dad. Whether it was going with my mom and dad to visit them at their house or them coming to our house in Pierrefonds it was always an enjoyable time. We would often gather around our dining room table for meals, tea (coffee for my folks) and conversation. Your mom and dad would visit even without Rich and Barb being present as the 4 of them; my folks and yours became very close. They did a lot together over the years. My thoughts and prayers to you all. I consider myself very blessed to have known them both. Love to all. Penny

Alec was a very important part of my life. A very kind, generous, strong and caring person. Always there for his family. Someone who taught me much about life.
He'll be missed very much by all of us, but I'm consoled to see so much of him in my children, his grandchildren. His values and our memories of him will live on. We are all fortunate to have had him in our lives. He and Pat were role models for all grandparents.

There was a time in my life that a week didn't go by that I wouldn't see your Mom or Dad. They were always so kind to us. I remember so many times having to call your Dad in the middle of the night to come and pick us up downtown after a night out....and it always seemed like in no time he was there. Never complained...just wanted to be sure we were all home safe. And he did that many times...not just once. Even though it's been a while since I've seen him I will miss him.....it was nice knowing your Dad was still around. I'm so sorry.....for all of you. He was the best and I know you all know that. Good-bye Mr.Morris. Gods speed.

Dear Janet, Barb, Geoff, Stuart
It was with great sadness I heard about your Dad's passing, although I'm sure he is happy to be with your mom once again.
I have very fond memories of him being such a wonderful friend to Mom. So many times I would go home and Mom and Pat would be chatting while Alec was fixing whatever had to be fixed or building whatever had to be built. I was very relieved to hear that you were all able to be with him and that the grandkids were virtually present as well .

To All of You,
I am saddened to know that Alex has passed. Pat and Alex are part of my earliest memories. I have a picture of Pat and Alex with Janet and Barbara in 1958 or 1959 enjoying Christmas dinner together with us in our new house. I always enjoyed when Pat and Alex would drop in just because they had gone for a drive and were in the neighbourhood. When Dad had his stroke, Alex was there to give a hand.
The world is a better place because Alex quietly made his way through it.
Rest In Peace Alex.
Love and peace to all the family.

Chère famille,
It is with sadness we learned the passing of Alex. A real gentleman and the children and Ivan and I have the best memories of him. Patient with Jean-Yves (when he was a talking machine toddler), smiling, always ready for an amiable chat with this little boy and us, his neighbors. I remember one particular moment which always brings a smile: A bird fell off its nest, hastily built in the pine tree. Alex not only took care of the bird but he build a better nest to replace the one that was partially on the floor. He then gently put the bird back in the tree. Both your parents were an example for me and I was happy to know I could rely on them in case of emergency. Alex and Pat (I cannot think of one without the other...) were a beautiful couple and they are now together. Nos sincères condoléances de toute la famille.

I posted this on facebook Dad...I know you never really got into facebook but glad it allowed us to connect to you via video calls over the last number of years..I also liked this photo as you were smiling so broadly..hard to get you out of your shell..:-) I also think you were smiling up at mom.
We will all miss you dad but I talked to mom and she is ready to hold your hand and has a cup of tea and a real breakfast ready for you. Give her a big smile and a hug. Love you
