Barb passed away peacefully, in her 61st year, at Southlake Regional Health Centre after a long struggle with ovarian cancer. She was the beloved wife of Len and a devoted mother to her special daughter Christine. She was the daughter of the late Anna Polkiewicz and leaves her father Teofil Polkiewicz and four siblings: Mary (Steve), Rick (Marlene), Chris (Joanne) and Ed as well as numerous nieces and nephews and their families.
Barb’s natural kindness and empathy rested on a solid foundation of practicality gained from growing up on a farm near Hanover, Ont. making her an ideal candidate for her chosen profession of nursing.
After graduating from McMaster University in 1979, she rose to be a head nurse at Sunnybrook Hospital. After becoming a mom she moved to public health and finished her career as a case manager at York Central CCAC.
Visitation will take place at the Thompson Funeral Home (530 Industrial Parkway South, Aurora) from 2 pm until 4 pm on Sunday Nov 27 and on Monday morning at 11:00 am until time of the service which will be held in the chapel at noon. A private family burial will take place after the service.
Donations in memory of Barb can be made to Ovarian Cancer Research at Princess Margaret Hospital or Southlake Regional Health Centre.
