Detlef will be lovingly remembered by his partner and wife of 36 years, Elisabeth; children Sabine End, Andrea End (Richard Chylinski) and Manfred End (Linda Ward); grandchildren Derek, Colin, and Erica Chylinski and Christopher, William, Cameron and Andrew End.
Detlef will also be missed by his sister Dagmar (Christian Kirchner), brother Horst (Francesca), his nephew Falk (Gabi) and great-nephews. He is predeceased by his brother Egon (Feli)
Deltef was born in Romania to Donau Schwabien parents. After the Second World War he spent time in Poland, East and West Germany before immigrating to Canada in 1958. He settled in Toronto working at various jobs such as a butcher (his learned trade) and as an x-ray machine technician. His job at Power Wash Equipment Company led him to purchase the business where he continued as the successful owner until his retirement.
By plane, train, automobile, motorhome, motorcycle, cruise ship, bicycle and on foot, Detlef and Elisabeth travelled extensively. They explored destinations near and far, together, in groups, and with family and friends. Detlef was very fond of a good story and his travels provided many entertaining tales of adventure and misadventure. He spent his final year at Aurora Meadows where he will be missed by his many old and new friends.
A private family gathering will take place at Thompson Funeral Home in Aurora. Memorial Donations may be made in Detlef Schon’s name to The Kidney Foundation of Canada.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.ThompsonFH-Aurora.com for the Schon family.
